Land Rover Defender (DC100 and DC 100 Sport concepts)

Land Rover, owned by Tata Motors Limited, is one of the most eminent sports utility manufacturers across the world. The British automaker, specialising in production of four-wheel-drive vehicles, has an exclusive Defender range of off-road utility vehicles. The Defender series is developed on the original Land Rover Series platform, which was launched in 1948. In the recently concluded 64th Frankfurt Motor Show 2011 in Germany, the manufacturer displayed new generation concepts of this range, named DC 100 and DC 100 Sport. These concepts will become the platform for new generation models of this iconic series.
The new generation of Defender SUV is expected to be launched sometime in 2014, thus flaring the expectations of car aficionados and SUV enthusiasts. The upcoming off-road vehicles, with 4 X 4 capability, are expected to outdo the existing range in terms of driveability, off-road performance, fuel consumption, body styling, wheel options and lower CO2 emissions. As per official reports, new generation Defender SUV models are expected to feature electric rear axle drive, along with several revisions in exterior and interiors.

Engines & Specifications of Land Rover Defender
DC 100 has a power-packed 2.0 L diesel engine, whereas the DC 100 Sport is equipped with 2.0 L turbo petrol engine for better acceleration and improved pickup. However, both the concepts are integrated with eight-speed gearbox and make use of hybrid and plug-in technology to improve efficiency.

Performance of Land Rover Defender
The new generation concepts have high ground clearance, boxy sides and short overhangs that complement their mechanical capabilities for excellent performance in off-road pursuits. Moreover, an arrangement for mud plugging and electric brain controls for automatic terrain response system is also present in the car. Its driver-activated spiked tyre system allows extra traction, thus ensuring that the vehicle deliver excellent performance.

Exterior, Interior & Safety Features of Land Rover Defender
DC 100 is a conventional three-door 4×4 SUV which is designed for optimum off-road performance. Its upright windscreen, front-mounted winch and corner positioned towing eyes and contrasting roof-mounted solar panel are major highlights. The roof-mounted solar panels help in powering electrical systems. On the other hand, DC 100 sport has a sporty appearance with open-top pick-up design. The concept draws inspiration from canvas-roofed previous edition of Defenders. Sporty styling, wrap around aero screen, cut down speedster windows and flat bed distinguish the exteriors of DC100 Sport.
As far as interiors are concerned, both concepts have three-abreast seating arrangement, termed 'social seating' by the automaker. The adjustable seating can be altered to increase load capacity of the SUV. Moreover, additional storage area between the seats is present for placing luggage. In order to cater to the tastes of entertainment enthusiasts, these two SUV concepts are loaded with advanced electronic capabilities in the form of a touchscreen for multimedia interface and connectivity.
