Toyota GT 86: 200 HP Sports Coupe Officially Revealed

Toyota has finally taken the wraps off the car that they’ve been teasing us with for so many years. Both the production versions of the European car and the Japanese Domestic Market one that will debut in Tokyo have been revealed. We have a bit of a naming change going on, because the “FT-86” has been swapped for GT 86 in Europe and simply “86” for the Japanese Car.
The Toyota GT 86 is a 2+2 coupe, which measures 4,240 mm in length (166.9 inches), 1,285 mm in hight (50.6 inches and 2,570 mm in width (101,2 inches. The shape of the body should come as no surprise for anybody following our website, but even we have to say that its remarkably fresh and pure, and a good successor to the Corolla GT legend.

Just as the rumors suggested, the car is powered by 2.0-liter boxer engine developed by Subaru and featuring Toyota's D-4S direct injection technology. It delivers 200 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm of torque (151,2 lb-ft) at 6,600. This is sent to the back via a six-speed manual gearbox with a short-throw lever or an optional six-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota boasts that the drivetrain has been set up to be "as low and as far back as possible to achieve the best balance. The weight distribution is 53:47 front to rear. It’s not that they couldn’t make it 50:50 though, as this setup should make it safer for the average enthusiastic driver.
