ELECTRIC PHANTOM

Today Luxury car maker Rolls-Royce officially unveiled its first electric car — the 102EX Phantom Experimental Vehicle — at the Geneva Auto show. Although only a concept at this point, the car will be one of the first electric vehicles made for for the ultra-luxury segment. Rolls-Royce is hoping to test how its consumer base reacts to alternative drive-train options with the 102EX – read on for a look under the hood!

The car has an aluminum spaceframe, and two 145kW electric motors that give the Phantom EX a maximum power output of 290 kW and a torque of 800 Nm (this compares quite well with the 338kW for the standard Phantom). The battery pack, which is thought to be the largest ever fitted to a road car, will be located under the long bonnet (the battery is five modules of lithium ion cells weighing 640 kg), and will give the car enough power to deliver a range of 125 miles.
The batteries can be ‘quick charged’ in about eight hours, although complete charging will take about 20 hours. There’s even an option to charge the car wirelessly.
The car can go from 0-60 mph in under eight seconds (5.7 seconds in standard Phantom), and has a top speed that is limited to 100 mph. Of course, all this comes with a pretty sweet price tag — the electric Phantom is expected to cost about ($1.6 million).
