Fiat Punto Evo.

The Fiat Punto has always been considered to be a very attractive hatchback. Now, Fiat plans to launch a thoroughly updated version for the Indian market towards the end of August. The new car takes the name Evo, just like the version in the international markets, and though it is not a full model change, there is plenty that is different both on the inside and outside.

Exteriors
The Punto Evo gets an all new face. The front bumper is new and the grille, which gets a brand new design; is big and prominent with rounded-off edges. It has a chromed outline and there is also a single bar of chrome that runs across it. The new headlights have a striking sweptback design and the foglights get large chromed surrounds. The rear bumper gets slight design changes, but the taillights are new and the rear foglights get chrome surrounds. While the sides of the car remain pretty much unchanged, the car will sport newly designed multi-spoke alloys. The best bit is that the Punto Evo retains the current car’s attractive silhouette and stance.

Interiors
The inside of the Punto Evo has been spruced up as well. The dashboard has been updated and is very similar to the upmarket and luxurious one in the Linea. The standard variants get a two-tone option while the 90HP sport variant, in keeping with a racy theme, gets all black interiors. The steering remains the same and has controls mounted on both sides. The dials are large and sporty. AC vents, centre console and dials in the instrument panel get silver accents. The Punto Evo will also come with rear aircon vents. Rear leg-room and boot space however, are not likely to improve.

 Engines
It will be offered with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine options. The diesel unit will be available in two states of tune – 75bhp and 89bhp. Both diesel engines are fairly refined and perform pretty well, but lack the enthusiasm of similar engines that power some Maruti products. The Punto Evo could also get the 1.4-litre T-Jet turbo-petrol sometime later. This is the same unit that does duty in the brand’s Linea sedan.
